We would like to invite you to take part in a workshop for Japanese Studies post-graduate students. This event is designed to assist with the development of the next generation of Japanese specialists here in the UK, and also to seek to further strengthen the Japanese Studies community in this country.
The proposed provisional schedule for the event is as follows:
11:30 – 12:00 Arrival, Tea/Coffee
12:00 – 12:15 Welcome by Tsuyoshi Takahashi, Director-General of Japan Foundation London office and Prof Chris Hughes, President of BAJS.
12:15 – 13:00 Japanese Keynote Speaker (details to be confirmed)
13:00 – 13:45 Lunch
13:45 – 14:30 Prof Chris Hughes, President of BAJS and Co-Editor of the Pacific Review, will talk about how to navigate the world of journal publishing.
14:30 – 15:15 Dr Thomas McAuley and Ms Luli Ishikawa-van der Does, School of East Asian Studies, University of Sheffield, will provide a practically oriented session on producing and delivering a culturally and academically appropriate research presentation in Japanese to a Japanese audience.
15:15 – 16:00 Representatives from the Japan Foundation, the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the Japan Foundation Endowment Committee will give short presentations about their funding programmes.
16:00 – 17:00 Social / Networking Event (details to be confirmed)
The Japan Foundation will be able to offer to subsidise the travel expenses of all participants in this event, up to the amount of £30 upon the production of tickets and receipts on the day.
